ITC Ltd, a leading Indian conglomerate, continues to make significant strides in its renewable energy journey with the commissioning of its second offsite solar plant in Karnataka. Located in the Davangere district, this 9.45 MW facility represents a pivotal step in ITC’s broader strategy to transition towards sustainable energy under its ambitious Sustainability 2.0 Vision, which targets 100% of its electricity needs being met through renewable sources by 2030.

The Davangere plant is expected to generate approximately 15 million units of clean energy annually. This energy will support multiple ITC operations in the state, including its flagship hotels, ITC Gardenia and ITC Windsor, as well as the ITC Life Sciences and Technology Centre in Bangalore. Additionally, the energy will power food manufacturing hubs in Mysore and Malur, alongside its agri-processing factory, warehousing, logistics facilities, and the ITC Green Centre in Bangalore.

What sets this project apart is the technology employed. The plant utilizes bifacial solar modules, which can capture sunlight on both sides of the panel, maximizing energy yield, especially in reflective environments. Combined with string inverters, the system delivers enhanced efficiency, meeting rigorous national and international design and safety standards.

The deployment of advanced solar technology is part of ITC’s broader commitment to innovative energy solutions. The company has already surpassed 200 MW of renewable electricity capacity across its solar and wind power projects, with additional offsite solar developments underway in several states. ITC’s renewable energy footprint is not limited to large-scale installations, as it has also invested in rooftop solar across several industrial sites, including Haridwar, Bolarum, Tribeni, Trichy, and Kapurthala.

In Karnataka, this latest project pushes ITC’s renewable energy contribution to nearly 90% of its electricity consumption in the state. ITC’s focus on integrating renewables into its energy mix is a cornerstone of its larger corporate strategy to reduce its carbon footprint while contributing to India’s clean energy goals.

The move aligns with India’s growing emphasis on renewable energy adoption. ITC’s sustained efforts to enhance its renewable capacity reflect both its environmental responsibility and strategic positioning in the evolving energy landscape. The company’s holistic approach to sustainability underscores its role as a leader in green energy solutions, positioning it as a model for industries seeking to balance growth with environmental stewardship.
